Many people prefer instant food because it is practical. They seem unaware that the cans or plastic bottles of instant food wrappers contain bisphenol A (BPA), which can affect fertility.
The conclusion was obtained through the University of Michigan study of the United States. Researchers compared the levels of BPA in urine samples with male sperm quality. They also look for signs of damage to DNA in sperm.
The result, men with higher levels of BPA has a concentration of 23 percent lower sperm count than men with lower concentrations of BPA. "The same study showed that sperm DNA with high BPA levels at 10 percent damaged," said Professor John Meeker who led the study, as quoted from the page of the Daily Mail.
Approximately 90 percent of people in the world believed to be exposed to BPA in the body. No wonder because the chemical synthetic plastic hardener is the most widely produced and used for various purposes such as lining of food or beverage cans, baby bottles, plastic cutlery, as well as CDs.
Besides affecting fertility, a number of other studies indicate that concentration of BPA in the body is also associated with breast cancer, liver damage, obesity, and diabetes. However, there are also studies showing BPA is safe for health.
For that, Meeker continued recommends a more comprehensive research to ensure the impact of BPA on male fertility rates.
